Griff at the Double for Reds against Stubborn Neath
LLANELLI moved three points clear of Rhyl at the top of the Principality Welsh Premier League, following a workmanlike 2-0 victory over Neath Athletic at Llandarcy Park.
The game was won in the first half, with Rhys Griffiths bagging a brace to take his season's tally to seven courtesy of a penalty and a firm header.
A trip by Carl Jenkins led to the spot-kick award in the 28th minute, while, seven minutes later, Andy Legg's cross earned Griffiths his brace.
In the second period, Neath showed their growing confidence in the higher level with a 20-minute bombardment of the Llanelli goal, but to no avail. The hosts' Manager threw Carl Shaw on to try and get back into the game but Reds' centre backs, Stuart Jones and Wyn Thomas as well as left-back Gary Lloyd were all faultless in the visitors defence, whilst 'keeper Ryan Harrison looked assured throughout.
The Reds hardly ventured into the Neath half in the second period, although Craig Williams did go on a trademark weaving run, only to fire closer to the corner flag than the goal with eight minutes remaining and fellow midfielder Antonio Corbisiero also had a late chance, but on the night it was their top scorer Rhys Griffiths, whose double was enough to take all three points on offer.
