Llanelli Fined 3000 Euro by UEFA
Llanelli AFC received notification from UEFA today that the club has been fined 3000 Euros for Improper Conduct of the Team in the Europa League game against FK Tauras in Lithuania.
The Reds were fined because they received seven yellow cards and one red in the game Lithuania, in which they were eliminated from the competition and following the match, Martyn Giles was also reported for violent conduct after the final whistle in the tunnel area.
Striker Craig Moses received a 3 match UEFA ban for his red card after he was found guilty of elbowing an opponent off the ball, when the ball was out of play. Defender Martyn Giles, who was only playing in his second game for the club since his switch from Newport County, was handed a two match UEFA ban.
The news means that if the Reds qualify for Europe next season, they would have Chris Holloway, Chris Venables, Rhys Griffiths, Craig Moses and Martyn Giles all suspended for their first match.
The substantial financial costs incurred is also a severe blow to the Reds, but the high cost of an appeal to UEFA is likely to mean that they will have to accept their punishment.
Tauras players Manatas Lekis and Marius Kizys have also received UEFA suspensions for their part in the tunnel incident with Martyn Giles after the game in Kaunas. Lekis recived a four match ban whilst, as he was already sent-off during the match before the post-match incident, whilst Kizys got a three game ban.
