Rhys ready to lead Llanelli to European glory in Lithuania today

Llanelli are in Europa League action this afternoon against Tauras in Lithuania (4:00pm) and will be hoping that they can overturn last Thursday's 2-2 draw to progress into the second qualifying round, where Cypriot outfit Apoel Nicosia awaits the winner.

The Reds are playing in the S. Darius & S. Girenas Stadium in Kaunas as Tauras' home stadium does not meet the UEFA criteria and they will welcome star striker and the League's Golden Boot, Rhys Griffiths back into the team.

The Cardiff-based firefighter believes he can lead his side to European glory and his manager Andy Legg is likely to recall his captain after he came off the bench last week to cause havoc, having only just returned from honeymoon.

Griffiths will be expected to replace youngster Jordan Follows, who missed a penalty in the first leg and Wales International Jason Bowen is also expected to start instead of Chris Holloway who was sent off in the dying minutes.

The prolific Griffiths, who has won the Golden Boot five times, went on from the substitutes bench during the second half, but missed a couple of chances and the striker admitted to Media Wales;

"I should have scored, but I'm confident I will in the second leg. Tauras are not a better team than us - and no way do they have bigger hearts. We know the challenge we face and we will be ready for that.

"Everybody in our dressing room knew we should have won. We are still right in this tie and I would always back myself to score in any game."

Griffiths, 30, is a former Cwmbran Town, Haverfordwest County, Carmarthen Town and Port Talbot Town striker who signed for Llanelli in 2006-07. He has scored almost 200 league goals, second only to Marc Lloyd-Williams on the all-time list.
