Champions Bangor overcome Reds to book Semi Spot

Bangor City's cup glories continued at Llanelli's expense in a rousing quarter-final and now Nev Powell's conquerors are just one step away from a third succcessive Welsh Cup Final.

Precious goals early and late achieved a mud-spattered win that went some way to atone for home and away league defeats to their opponents earlier this season. City were sent on the way by Jamie Reed's cool penalty in the sixth minute, after Llanelli defender Stuart Jones saw red for a foul on Ashley Stott.

But the Farrar Road hosts' victory was not clinched until three minutes into stoppage time, when Dave Morley stroked a low shot past keeper Ashley Morris.

City had missed out earlier when Stott blasted an eight-yard volley against the bar and, in a breakaway, four home raiders failed to get the better of a lone defender.

Stott also burst into space only for Morris to advance off his line to execute an important block 15 yards from the target. Despite those Bangor miscues in the pulsating last half hour, Llanelli had spent a good chunk of the earlier proceedings as the more purposeful outfit.

Shrugging off their numerical handicap, Andy Legg's men stroked the ball about and probed constantly, but their attempts on goal were often from long range. Top scoring Rhys Griffiths had a snap shot from outside the box deflected for a corner and put another drive wide, while Chris Venables was denied by a block.

Craig Moses raced into space but steered the ball at Bangor’s Paul Smith, then Venables blazed just a foot wide and Stephen Evans had a shot tipped over by the 'keeper.
