Darren Dealt Disastrous Double Injury Blow

Newtown manager Darren Ryan has been rocked with the news that talented young striker Jamie Breeze will miss the rest of the season.

The Robons' boss had only just named a full strength squad for the trip to Haverfordwest, but then the young forward sustained a broken jaw playing for Powys College agains Swansea College at Newtown on Wednesday.

He underwent surgery at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and is almost certainly out for the rest of the season.

"Jamie has broken his jaw in two places and it is a devastating blow for the player and club," said Ryan.

"He has been like a breath of fresh air since forcing his way into the side and we are really going to miss him."

The news followed the announcement earlier in the week that midfielder Richie Harris, whose Newtown debut lasted just six minutes, is recovering at home after undergoing surgery on his injured knee.

Harris snapped both his lateral and cruciate knee ligaments in the horrific injury at Elements Cefn Druids, following his switch from Technogroup Welshpool Town. He has now gone under the surgeon's knife at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital at Gobowen to have the damage to the lateral ligament repaired.

He faces a two month wait before the surgeon can attempt to repair the damage to his cruciate ligament and must then prepare for a long period of recuperation before even considering getting back into the game.

Manager Darren Ryan described the injury as a 'tragedy for the player'.

"As well as being unable to play football Richie is unable to work and all we can do is wish him every success in his recovery. I know that I speak for everyone involved at Newtown Football Club in wishing him a speedy recovery."
