Lido stun Nomads in Extra-Time for Cup Shock

FAW Welsh Cup Competition Round Four Results

Aberystwyth Town 0-2 Port Talbot Town
A crowd of over 500 made for a great atmosphere at Park Avenue as Port Talbot made it through to the Quarter-Finals with a comfortable 2-0 win against last season's finalists.

After Martin Rose hit the bar with a back-header, goalscoring midfielder Liam McCreesh headed home in a crowded box with just five minutes played to give the Steelmen a perfect start.

After the break Leigh De Vulgt caught the Aber defence off-guard when he took a free-kick quickly on 50 minutes, with Steve Cann left in no mans land. Aber rarely threatened Lee Kendall in the Port Talbot goal and Rose could have extended their lead but headed straight at Cann.

Afan Lido FC 2-1 GAP Connah's Quay (AET)
Nathan White's extra-time goal sent Afan Lido through to the last eight against Welsh Premier opposition. After a goalless first-half, Sam McNutt gave the Nomads the lead on 69 minutes.

The Lido didn't give up and they got their equaliser through ex-Llanelli striker Mark Jones with four minutes to play to take the game to extra time. White then gave the Welsh League underdogs the lead for the first time on 100 minutes and the 2007 finalists held on for a memorable victory.

Bala Town 2-0 Caersws FC
Ricky Evans is the toast of Bala this evening as the Lakesiders reached the last eight for the first time. Town took an early lead against Caersws, when the inspirational midfielder scored against his former side after just eight minutes. He then doubled the advantage with an incredible effort from the half-way on ten minutes.

Bangor City 3-1 Aberaman FC
The holders are through and Nev Powell has now won fifteen consecutive Welsh Cup matches since taking charge at Farrar Road two and half years ago. Things didn't start to plan for him though, as Aberaman striker Greg Palmer scored the shock opener for the Welsh League side on 18 minutes. Forward Jamie Reed then scored the hosts' equaliser on 33 minutes and after the break, Craig Garside gave Bangor the lead with a 50th minute strike. Reed made the game safe for the holders with his second, three minutes into injury time.

Llandudno Junction FC 0-6 The New Saints FC
TNS cruised into the last eight as expected at the home of Welsh Alliance side Junction. Steve Abbott scored the opener for TNS after just ten minutes against the minnows and defender Phil Baker then doubled the advantage with a 30 yard free-kick which whipped across the deck and through the Junction 'keeper's grasp with 23 minutes played. There were two goals just before the break as Chris Seargeant made it 3-0 on 44 minutes and Steve Evans scored the fourth two minutes into injury time before the interval.

Seargeant - who was Man of the Match in last years final for Bangor - scored his second and the Saints fifth on 73 minutes and Abbott also notched his brace two minutes later.

Llanelli AFC 4-0 Holyhead Hotspurs
Chris Venables scored the opener for the Reds on 26 minutes at Stebonheath Park in the delayed kick-off. Jordan Follows scored the second on 36 minutes and captain Rhys Griffiths scored the third after 47 minutes. Antonio Corbisiero was the next to find the back of the net on 52 minutes.

Prestatyn Town 1-0 CPD Porthmadog
John Fisher-Cooke was the hero for Prestatyn Town as he scored the only goal of the game with just ten minutes to play at Bastion Road.

Rhyl FC 7-0 Pontardawe Town
Rhyl coasted into the Quarter-Finals with a comfortable win at home to the Welsh League side. John Leah scored a hat-trick for the Lilywhites with his first coming after sixteen minutes. On 32 minutes, Marc Connolly scored the second for the hosts and they extended their lead to 3-0, one minute before the interval as Leah scored his second of the afternoon.

After the break January signing Rob Turner scored his first Welsh Cup goal with a strike on 53 minutes and Connolly netted his brace on the hour. The sixth goal was scored by Tyrone Kirk on 71 minutes and Leah rounded off an unlikely hat-trick on 76 minutes to make it seven and a fine afternoon.
