Afan Lido secured their first Corbett Sports WPL point since January 5th as they claimed a goal-less draw at the GenQuip Stadium on Monday night.

In the 3 previous meetings during this campaign Port Talbot had secured 9 points – scored 16 goals and conceded only 3 but although Leigh deVulght, Rhys Griffiths, Martin Rose, Gethin Jones and Bauza all went close they failed to beat debutant Daniel James in the Lido goal.

Alex Gammond almost claimed the Lido’s first victory since November 30th against Aberystwyth but his late effort rattled the underside of the Steelmen’s bar. During the closing stages Paul Evans’s team kept pressing for the victory but were unsuccessful in their attempts.

This was Afan Lido’s first League point since drawing 2-2 with Newtown on January 5th. Since then they’d played and lost 8 games – scored 4 and conceded 40 so the Lido team deserved great credit – especially since their relegation was confirmed over the weekend.

Port Talbot’s failure to beat their closest rivals in their first game since parting company with Manager Scott Young dealt their slim European hopes a mighty blow.

Wedi dioddef tair colled Cynghrair yn erbyn Port Talbot – hawliodd Lido Afan bwynt dewr yn Stadiwm GenQuip nos Lun.
