theWord Cup Final 2014 Preview

Bala Town will be contesting their first ever major final after knocking out Airbus UK Broughton 2-1 in the Semi-Final at Maes Tegid, thanks to a winning goal from Lewis Codling.

Carmarthen Town are the current holders after winning the trophy last season at Latham Park beating The New Saints 3-1 in a penalty shoot out after the sides drew 3-3 (AET). This season the ‘Old Gold’ came from two goals down in their Semi to beat Welsh League outfit Cambrian & Clydach, scoring two goals in the last 8 minutes courtesy of Liam McCreesh and Liam Thomas.

Both teams will be looking to secure victory, lift the league cup trophy and bag themselves the £10,000 prize money for winning the competition.

Although Bala currently sit in 10th position in the Welsh Premier League out of the two sides they have better form in their last six matches with two wins and two draws. The Lakesiders are in rich goalscoring form with 16 goals coming from them very last 6 matches and hope that the likes of Mark Connolly and Ian Sheridan will fire them to success.

Carmarthen are still in the top six (5th place) of the WPL after a strong start to the season however, they've only managed to win once in their last six matches losing four in the process. The Old Gold have been struggling to find consistant goals in the WPL of late only managing five in those previous six games but theWord Cup goal scoring record of Liam Thomas and threat from Christian Doidge should rule out any chances of a triumph by the sea.

The match will be live on S4C's Sgorio from 2:30pm with the match kicking off at 3:00pm
