Rhyl have moved into the top-half of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League table, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Connah's Quay in the live televised Sunday match at the Corbett Sports Stadium.

The Lilywhites took the lead as Jason Oswell latched on to an excellent through ball from Man of the Match Michael Walsh, before rounding Terry McCormick in the Noamds goal for a very well taken goal.

The hosts has the ball in the net again midway through the first half but Mark Cadwallader's effort was ruled out for offside. But, two minutes before the break, the hosts were awarded a penalty as Chris Rowntree blocked a shot with his hands. The spot-kick was taken by Rhyl skipper Paul McManus, but McCormick dived to his left and saved well, only for Oswell to be on hand to volley the rebound home.

The Nomads were the better side after the break and dominated both territory and possession as Rhyl got men behind the ball. The visitors were rewarded for their superiority with nine minutes to play as Gary O'Toole was put into space from a clever Danny Desormeaux header and the Nomads' leading scorer beat Alex Ramsay at the near post to give the Deesiders hope.

There were late chances as both ends as Oswell twice missed his chance for a maiden top-flight hat-trick, firstly after a Paul Mooney error and then after he struck the post. Nomads were also unable to find another breakthrough and the Lilywhites clinched the three points and a League double over their north-Wales rivals.

Ddau funud cyn yr egwyl – llawiodd Jack Rowlands yn y cwrt cosbi. Arbedodd Terry McCormick gic Paul McManus o’r smotyn yn gampus – ond ymatebodd Oswell yn gynt nag amddiffyn yr ymwelwyr i rwydo’i ail o’r prynhawn.

‘Doedd dim cymaint o gyffro yn yr ail hanner ac er i Oswell gael mwy nac un cyfle i rwydo’i drydedd – Gary O’Toole oedd y chwaraewr nesaf i rwydo. Er gwaethaf 8fed gôl ymosodwr y Nomadiaid o’r tymor gyda 10 munud yn weddill – ‘doedd hi ddim yn ddigon i achub pwynt i’w dîm.
