gap Connah's Quay and Coleg Cambria have joined forces to announce a prestigious football scholarship programme for 16-19 year olds in the local area.
Twenty elite players will be selected for the scholarship which will commence in September 2014. Unlike most football or sports scholarships in which all players must study a Diploma in Sport, selected players will be able to choose to study A levels or Level 2/3 Diplomas in any subject at Coleg Cambria Deeside.
The programme will be managed by Jay Catton, The Nomads' Academy Director and First Team Assistant Manager, along with Mark McGregor, First Team Manager. Players will train six times per week, as well as representing Nomads/Coleg Cambria in the North West Colleges League every Wednesday. They will also be available to play for the first team and under 19’s in the Welsh Premier Youth League. Training will take place in the morning and afternoon, before and after college.
Coaches Jay and Mark will receive weekly updates on attendance, targets and college work from players, teachers and lecturers. If a player is not attending their college classes, grades are not being met, or has behavioral problems in the class room they will be unable to train or play in football matches until the agreed targets are met. Football will be used as the main motivator to ensure players work to the best of their ability when it comes to their studies. Players will wear Nomads/Coleg Cambria tracksuits every day so that they are clearly identifiable by staff both on and off site.
It’s great for Coleg Cambria to collaborate with gap Connah’s Quay Nomads to offer this scholarship and we look forward to welcoming the talented players in September 2014.”
