Ian Williams - Right
The New Saints Chief Operating Officer Ian Williams has been elected to the Football Association of Wales Council as the League of Wales representative.
Williams who will attend his first Council meeting in Cardiff on Wednesday is looking forward to the challenge.
‘I thank all of the clubs for their support in me representing them on the FAW Council. It’s an exciting time for Welsh Football and especially football in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League, with standards raising every year’ said Williams.
‘We have worked hard over the past couple of seasons on a strategy to take the league forward, this in line with the FAW’s strategy will ensure our national league is at the forefront of developing the game in Wales. The academy programmes within clubs for example, continue to thrive, with clubs now bearing fruit with talented young players starting to come through a system which has been established now for a number of years’ he added.
‘With the work currently being undertaken by the Chief Executive, it’s Staff, Officer’s and Council members in relation to improved governance, there is an opportunity to take football to another level in Wales. Football is a global brand, it’s a massive business, we have to make sure that we maximise the potential that’s available to us on all fronts including commercial opportunities, marketing, financial and legal. We have to have experts in their field advising Council on how to take the game forward without compromising the good work already established in many areas and in particular the Welsh Premier League. Our performances in Europe once again this season show that we can compete with Europe’s elite, with continued focus and investment in the Welsh Premier League, football in Wales will no doubt prosper’ concluded Williams.
