WPL, Interpol and Betting

The Secretary of the League, Gwyn Derfel met Ronald K Noble (Secretary General of INTERPOL) last week to discuss ‘Match Fixing and Irregular Betting’ in football. They were both in Rome to attend an INTERPOL convention which was also attended by the Secretary Generals of both FIFA and UEFA and included representatives from major Bookmakers.

‘Irregular Betting and Match Fixing’ are considered as the “biggest threat to the beautiful game” and “we need to get rid of these cancers from the game” according to Jerome Valcke (Sec. Gen. FIFA)

FIFA have recently contributed £20 million to INTERPOL to investigate and stop these practices.

These investigations are not solely concentrated on the so called ‘bigger’ nations as confirmed cases of ‘Irregular Betting and Match Fixing’ have been confirmed in many Asian and African countries as well as many European Nations such as Greece, Switzerland,Finland, Macedonia, Germany and Hungary.
There are numerous examples of players and officials being banned for life from football.

Others involved in ‘Irregular Betting and Match Fixing’ have been jailed for 10 years in China while 7,000 people in Asia alone have been arrested in the past five years.

The simple directive from FIFA regarding players or club officials is “NO BETTING ON FOOTBALL”.

The Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League has informed the Gambling Commission of the details of every player and official involved in the WPL. Clubs and players have already been informed of this – and will be aware that betting on football will not be tolerated.

We are not aware that this is a problem in the WPL – but are trying to be proactive and protective of the integrity of our league.

Cafodd Ysgrifennydd y Cynghrair, Gwyn Derfel y fraint o gyfarfod Ronald K Noble (Ysgrifennydd INTERPOL) yr wythnos ddiwethaf i drafod ‘Trefnu Gemau a Betio’ mewn gemau pêl-droed. ‘Roedd INTERPOL wedi trefnu cynhadledd yn Rhufain i drafod y pwnc yma ddisgrifwyd gan Jerome Valcke (Ysgrifennydd FIFA) fel ‘y bygythiad mwyaf i’n gêm’. Ychwanegodd bod yn rhaid ‘ dileu y cancr yma o’r gamp’.
Mae FIFA newydd gyfrannu £20 miliwn i INTERPOL er mwyn iddyn nhw allu ymchwilio i ‘Drefnu Gemau a Betio’.
Gan bod enghreifftiau eisoes wedi eu cadarnhau mewn nifer o wledydd yn Asia ac Affrica ac hefyd yn y Swistir, Y Ffindir, Macedonia, Yr Almaen a Hwngari – cadarnhaodd INTERPOL na fydd eu hymchwiliadau yn canolbwyntio’n llwyr ar y gwledydd ‘mawr’.
Mae enghreifftiau lu o chwaraewyr a swyddogion yn cael eu gwahardd o’r gamp am oes – ac mae dau o brif swyddogion yn China wedi eu carcharu am ddeng mlynedd am eu rhan nhw mewn cynllun ‘Trefnu Gemau a Betio’.
Y neges syml a chlir gan FIFA i chwaraewyr a swyddogion clybiau yw ‘DIM BETIO AR BÊL-DROED’.
Mae Uwch Gynghrair Cymru –Corbett Sports wedi cyflwyno manylion pob swyddog a chwaraewr o’r Cynghrair i’r Comisiwn Gamblo. Mae’r clybiau a’r chwaraewyr eisoes yn ymwybodol o hyn ac mae’n nhw’n ymwybodol hefyd nad yw ‘Trefnu Gemau a Betio’ yn dderbyniol.
Nid ydym yn ymwybodol bod hyn yn broblem yn UGC – ond ‘rydym yn ceisio dangos arweiniad er mwyn gwarchod delwedd a buddiannau ein Cynghrair drwy dynnu sylw pawb at y pwnc llosg hwn.
