Chris Budrys scored the winner
Airbus UK Broughton have climbed into the top three with a Friday night Airfield win over Newtown.
Andy Preece’s men were made to work hard for the three points though, with the winner coming 25 minutes from time.
In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, the Wingmakers ran out 7-1 victors, but it was a different story this time as Newtown battled to the end. The hosts took an 18th minute lead as Mike Hayes headed in from a corner. Parity was restored just 10 minutes later as Kieran Mills-Evans swept in at the near post from a Jamie Price free-kick.
The winner came when Scotsman Chris Budrys connected to a Wayne Riley assist and the match should have been settled shortly after, but Tom Field saw his penalty saved well by Dave Roberts. This led to a nervous climax to the match, but had no effect on the outcome as the Wingmakers secured back-to-back home wins, but the Robins dropped down into the relegation zone.
It was the result at Stebonheath that saw Newtown slide into the bottom two with Llanelli leapfrogging them courtesy of a 0-0 draw with Aberystwyth Town, who have now gone three games unbeaten, which is their best run of the campaign.
