Academy Football in Wales

There are currently 22 clubs who have sides that participate in the Academy Games Programme. Principality Welsh Premier League clubs must run an Academy programme to be eligible for assessment for the UEFA Solidarity Grant. The 166,700 Euro that the FAW received in 2009/10 season for youth development will get distributed amongst the Welsh Premier League Academies, subject to meeting the Welsh Football Trust Audit. Any monies that are not allocated because of non-compliance at audit, will get re-distributed to those clubs who have fully met the required standard. Seventeen of the member clubs are running an Academy this season, with Welshpool being the exception.

These are regionalised in to North and South and the clubs particpate in a League and Cup basis.

Particpating Clubs in the South Wales area are: -

Aberystwyth Town, Afan Lido, Cambrian and Clydach, Carmarthen Town, Haverfordwest County, Llanelli AFC, Neath FC, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport YMCA, Pontardawe, Port Talbot Town.
